Sub-text - Music

Males and females have different points of views but also some same points of views. Males usually like metal, rap, and rock, but females usually like pop, dancing hall, and rock. It is pretty unusual if girls like metal because nobody else does and it is also unusual if males like pop or classical because people might think they are weird. On the other hand, sometimes gender doesn’t matter on what music you like because in some situation, girls might like metal and rap and guys might like pop and dancing hall. There are bands with males only and females only in the world recently and guys usually listen to male bands and girls usually listen to female bands because most male bands are made for guys and most female bands are made for girls. I don’t really get the perception of why gender matters in music and everything. We are all same human-beings and we are just separated by physical appearance. But one of my guess why gender matters is just how they are made and that’s why we like different genres of music or songs.

People with different ages have their own fashion and interests as well as music styles. Old people mostly like classical songs and they don’t really like fast-typed songs because they don’t really get what they are saying. Young people or teenagers usually like fast songs which are rock, pop, dancing hall, rap, and metal. Young people don’t enjoy classical songs because they are too slow and not interesting at all. They enjoy fast and noisy songs because they want to get excited and get rid of stress with loud songs. Sometimes even young people listen to classical or quiet songs to clean your mind or to get rid of depression and sadness and some people just enjoy the classical music. Personality somewhat matters at what kind of music you listen to. For example, quiet and inactive people like classical music and active people like rock and loud music.

I don’t think the race affects the people about music but I have some guesses of the difference of the music. People in Europe like rap, people in Middle East have their own fashion of music; also people in some part of Asia have their own fashion of music. But I think everyone likes their own style of music no matter what race you are. African Americans like rap and they are very skillful at rap. Most of the teenagers no matter what race you are, like the same kinds of music. Latinos like Latin music which is danceable and exciting. Even though every country has their own traditional music that they listen to, people have their own interests in music.

Reflective Journal - Poetry Unit

In 3rd quarter of English class, we studied poetry which was challenge for me. This unit was a quiet easy unit for me so far because all you had to do to get an outstanding grade is just to complete your assignments and the poetry book. It was difficult to write poems and make the actual poetry book. At first I was not that sure what exactly poetry is and it was not that fascinating to me because it was boring and monotonous. On the other hand, at the end of this quarter my opinions about the poetry were with a complete difference. Poetry made me think of myself again and has redressed me with improvements. I started thinking more carefully and thoughtfully even if it was just a simple thing.

In our school, there are some things called ESLRs (Expected School-wide Learning Results). There are critical thinkers, effective communicators, involved citizens, academic achievers, and self-directed learners. Self-directed learners are basically people who have responsibilities for their own learning. They take creative risks in developing untried ideas which means that they challenge on new problems. Academic achievers are practically people who demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. They demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively which means that you have an ability to work alone and to work with other teammates. Involved citizens are people who demonstrate care for environment, responsibilities and respects for others. They demonstrate awareness and respect for the rights of others which means that you care about other people with respects. Effective communicators are people who listen respectfully and ask questions to achieve goals and insight. They listen respectfully and ask questions to facilitate understanding and achieve insight which means that they respect other people’s opinions and ask what exactly they need. Critical thinkers are who solve incidents using a variety of strategies. They solve problems using a variety of strategies which means that you use many solutions to solve incidents.

The poetry book took me mountain of hours to complete. When I was creating this book, I was a self-directed learner and an academic achiever. I took creative risks in developing untried ideas because I wanted to be extraordinary and unique from my classmates. I bought empty lined book, I covered the covers with the images I chose, for each page, I glued different colors of paper and I glued my poems in different fonts with edited images. I demonstrated technological literacy and the use of technology as a tool for the efficient and creative completion of a project. We, the students in 8th grade, used Photoshop to compose and edit images for the book. After I completed my book, I examined over it and I was very satisfied myself with most of my work.

The poetry night was great because we had all the modern technology we could get in our school. We had all varieties of food, and our impressive and intensive poetry books. The poetry night made me nervous and I thought that was the time when we all had to show how much we learned about poetry. I was very nervous while I was presenting my poem but I was very satisfied because everyone cheered me up very loudly. While participating in Poetry Night, I was an academic achiever and an involved citizen. I demonstrated technological literacy and the use of technology as a tool for the efficient and creative completion of a project with all my classmates and my teacher. We set up all the technological equipments like sounds and videos. I demonstrated awareness and respect for the rights of others because meanwhile I was giving a speech, I was thinking about what I can do to show my respect to other audience and I performed my best.

In the Teen life project, it was very confusing at the beginning because I honestly had no idea what this project was about. However, I started to be familiar with the teen life project and I put some introduction of myself, a poem for my topic and a picture I made. While I was involving in this teenlife project, I was an effective communicator and a self-directed learner. I collaborated with others in appropriate learning situations to achieve group goals which mean that I worked with other people to complete a project or to achieve my or their goals. For this project, I had a partner and we communicated about it and performed our best. I took creative risks in developing untried ideas because this project was all new to us and we found the key to solve the incidents.

While writing my book, participating in Poetry Night, and completing the Teenlife Project, I flash back myself what I could have done better if I had an opportunity to do them again. For my poetry book, I regret that I didn’t start it early so I didn’t have much time to decorate and actually visualize of a perfect book. I could also have thought of some more creative ideas that people haven’t given a shot yet. For the Poetry Night, I should have planned about my poetry presentation because mine was too simple. I was amazed at people who actually planned this in a short amount of time. I regret that I didn’t use the time wisely because every single second was gold. For the Teenlife project, I keep thinking myself that I should have spent more time on it and be an involved in it more and be more active. I also didn’t really talk much with my teammates except my partner in my school. I should have done some extra work on this to impress myself and others and should have been more responsible for this project.

Overall this Poetry Unit will be my favorite unit out of all my units I had in my whole school life. In my opinion, poems have affected everything in the universe. Everything is related to poems and writing poems is a magnificent way to express your emotions. Everyday I had to write poems which I enjoyed and that was one of my joys I could have during 8th grade. I’m appreciative to my English teacher, Mr. Raisdana, for teaching us such an intelligent unit that has affected my life. It was somewhat hard for me to match my work with ESLRs but they make me reflect myself. I would give myself a B+ or an A-. I think academic achievers assisted me the most to complete my duties because I demonstrated technological literacy and the use of technology as a tool for the efficient and creative completion of a project. I also demonstrated the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
